Thought of the Month

Q. What are we doing for our performance this year?

A. Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes this season’s ballet, Following the Call. In our story, we will be visiting the Biblical account of Noah and the Ark. However, instead of focusing on Noah directly, our ballet will follow the struggle of a baby animal who must listen to God's call despite her own distraction and uncertainty. With this ballet, we hope to mirror not only Noah’s struggle but our own challenges to listen and to follow even when life doesn't seem to make sense or situations do not go not as we had imagined.

Q. Why at Heaven’s Least Ballet do we tell story ballets? Why not do a recital?

Miss Angie: There are lots of reasons for all kinds of different performance types, however here are a few reasons I prefer story ballets. First, Jesus spoke in parables and stories, because they are a way to access the deep truths of scripture in a way that's easier to digest—which is particularly important when teaching young people. Secondly, ballet as an art form should give some truth value to the audience, so I prefer story ballets to the recital style or simply topical ballets, because they can give more for the audience to consider. Third, it makes Miss Faith and me, as directors and choreographers, really delve into scripture or stories of remarkable people and give us focus and inspiration from some of the best source material in the world, rather than just focusing on something pretty or emotional.

Miss Faith: I, personally, have found that images last longer than words. They make a more direct impression on my emotions. If tied to a greater theme, it means I ponder the meaning they carry far longer. Furthermore, a story allows for more than one theme to be gleaned from the interpretation People can draw a conclusion for themselves which can be more powerful than if they are simply told what moral they should get out of what they are watching

Yoga for the feet :)

These exercises improve turnout and especially the strength and flexibility of your feet.

1. Point your entire foot with long straight legs, ankles, and toes.

2. Flex just your toes to the ceiling then your ankle.

3. Rotate your flexed feet outward.

Repeat 5 times then reverse.

Peddles

Press down first one ball of the foot, then the other rolling through your entire foot. Repeat 10 times.
